We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day. ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce
Quick! Think of the one thing you want most to accomplish in 2010!
Do you want to lose weight? Are you ready to go back to school? Is it time to really start preparing yourself for your dream job? Is it truly time to dust off that old guitar case stuffed in the corner of your room?
No matter what your resolution is, have you wished for it before? Was this once a goal that found itself pushed on the backburner?
Was your resolution renewed with the coming New Year?
If so, what happened to make you put aside your goal? Did you get busy? Did you forget to carve out time for yourself? Did you forget to make yourself a priority?
Or, is something else holding you back from keeping your promises to yourself?
Many people are masters at success. They keep their promises to themselves. They know that they can succeed at any task they put their minds to doing. They also fear making the change because they know, deep down inside, that once they succeed something in their life will change and it gives them a sense of uncertainty and anxiety.
Well, my friends, the wonderful thing about anxiety is that it can feel just like excitement.
Sure, if you lose those last ten pounds you may not be able to indulge at your favorite bakery as often but, goodness, you will certainly find yourself more energized to do other things you enjoy. If you finish your classes, find your dream job, or learn that new skill, it is certain that your lifestyle will change. Think of how much happier you’ll be once you have achieved your goal and spent time enjoying the fruits of your labor.
The trick is to take care of yourself, stay positive, make a commitment to work towards your goal on a daily basis, and keep your eyes open for opportunities to grow with regard to that goal. Because human beings learn from all experiences, everything you do will eventually lead to your success.
Get to it! Take risks, practice, grow and get used to the exhilarating feeling of success! Yes, beginning now, you can embrace life as the change process it truly is.
